BUILT FROM LIVED PURPOSE

There is a version of my story that ends in a hospital bed with machines doing the work my body could no longer do on its own — and I want to start there, not because it is the most professionally comfortable place to begin, but because it is the truest one. I spent nearly two decades building a career in healthcare, nursing bedside patients, leading interdisciplinary teams, managing multi-million-dollar budgets, and earning the credentials and the title of Nurse Executive — and in the middle of all of that building, life stopped me completely and asked a question I had been too busy to answer: What is all of this actually for? 

What I discovered in the silence of that crisis — and in the years of rebuilding, reinventing, and radical recommitment to purpose that followed — is that every competency I had built, every experience I had accumulated, and every hard-won insight I had earned was not just for my career.
